1951 Talks to end the Korean war to begin later in July after terms were accepted by General Matthew Ridgway, supreme commander to the UN in the Far-East.

1954 Rationing finally ended in Britain 9 years after the end of World War 2.

1962 * Tom Cruise, US film actor who starred in the film Top Gun.
